Cushion Making

I had a bit of free time on a weekday afternoon a few weeks
ago and decided to spend it making new cushion covers. I wanted
a change from the dark blues and oranges of the cushions we've
had all winter on our sofa and chose fabrics with more cheerful
 colours for these new ones.

This was the first of two that I mananaged to make. I love the mix of
blue, green and coral on this material which was part of an FQ bundle
from the V&A fabric collection that I bought at half price in the post
Christmas sale. I just think it's so pretty.

I like the fresh colours on this second one, all greens and yellows.
This fabric was from the lovely Virna, just one of many lovely things
she's recently sent me and the girls.

Here they are both, my new cushions, giving our sofa some
spring and summery brightness. Not bad for an hour's work
on the sewing machine methinks.

I have plans to make a third one and it will have appliques.
Fingers crossed I'll have time for more cushion making soon.

Thanks for reading!

  1. How delightful these cushions are, and how cheerful! The first one looks like printing. Thankyou for your kind comment on my Hampshire post; you will have a marvellous time on the Isle of Wight. We used to go often as children and had the best times. I have been recently, and nothing has changed!

  2. Beautiful! And so cheerful, perfect for the season! I've got to get on with making some, myself - we have zero cushions our our couches. We are constantly pulling out our bed pillows! I also realized with your last post, that I really need to do the same for my twine - I keep storing my couple balls of twine in a box, but that is just a mess!

  3. I love your pillows - so bright and colourful! I'm so glad you're able to make use of the FQ I sent you.

    Have a great day!

  5. These are just beautiful! You chose some gorgeous fabrics, perfect for spring and summer. I like to swap my cushions and throws with the seasons, it's such an easy way to update a room. Did you put zips in these? I wish I could do zips. I usually do a pillow style opening at the back but I often think I should just learn how to do zips. x
